چکیده

background: toxoplasmosis is one of the most important food-borne diseases distributed worldwide. in order to determinate the involvement of poultry meat in clinical toxoplasmosis, this study aimed to genetic characterization of toxoplasma gondii in tissue samples of serologically positive chickens of tunisia using polymerase chain reaction (pcr). methods: trail of isolation of local t. gondii chicken strains through bioassay of the suspected infected chicken tissues in mice was carried out and the isolated strains were typed using pcr-rflp targeting the marker ak69. data analysis was performed by spss 16.0. results: out of 40 seropositive chickens, 15 were positive by ak69 gene pcr. rflp analysis showed high prevalence of type ii t. gondii in infected poultry meats in tunisia. conclusion: it seems that chicken meat of this region is not a risk factor of congenital toxoplasmosis. however, direct genotyping approach and deeper analysis should be investigated to have clearer idea about the epidemiology of the parasite and its transmission routs in tunisia.

Prevalence of Food-Borne Toxoplasma gondii in Free-Ranging Chickens Sold in Tunis, Tunisia

Background: Toxoplasma gondii, as an important food-borne protozoan parasite, occurs widely in humans and animals including domestic poultry throughout the world. The goal of this survey was to determine prevalence rate of T. gondii in free-ranging chickens sold in Tunis, Tunisia. Methods: In the present study, the prevalence of T. gondii in 40 free-range chickens (Gallus domesticus) marketed ...

Development of Neurological Mouse Model for Toxoplasmosis Using Toxoplasma gondii Isolated from Chicken in Kenya

Animal models for the toxoplasmosis are scarce and have limitations. In this study, a neurological mouse model was developed in BALB/c mice infected intraperitoneally with 15 cysts of a Toxoplasma gondii isolate. The mice were monitored for 42 days and euthanized at different time points. Another group of mice were orally treated with dexamethasone (DXM: 2.66 mg/kg daily, 5.32 mg/kg daily) at 4...

Characterization of aspartyl aminopeptidase from Toxoplasma gondii

Aminopeptidases have emerged as new promising drug targets for the development of novel anti-parasitic drugs. An aspartyl aminopeptidase-like gene has been identified in the Toxoplasma gondii genome (TgAAP), although its function remains unknown. In this study, we characterized TgAAP and performed functional analysis of the gene product. Firstly, we expressed a functional recombinant TgAAP (rTg...

genetic characterization of toxoplasma gondii from zoo wild¬life and pet birds in fujian, china

background: toxoplasmosis, a worldwide zoonotic disease, is caused by toxoplasma gondii . the distribution of genetic diversity of t. gondii in wild animals is of great importance to understand the transmission of the parasite in the environment. however, little is known about t. gondii prevalence in wild animals and birds in china. methods: we conducted the genetic characterization of t. gon...

Genetic diversity of Toxoplasma gondii isolates from chickens from Brazil.

Until recently, Toxoplasma gondii was considered clonal with very little genetic variability. Recent studies indicate that T. gondii isolates from Brazil are genetically and biologically different from T. gondii isolates from USA and Europe. In the present study, we retyped 151 free range chicken isolates from Brazil including 117 newly isolated samples from 11 geographically areas (Alagoas, Ba...
